Man charged with abusing foster child

Staff report

The Claiborne County Sheriff's Department arrested a Cumberland Gap, Tenn., man last week on charges that he sexually abused a foster child.

Ben Kenneth West, 54, is charged with two counts of aggravated sexual battery stemming from allegedly having unlawful sexual contact with a 9-year-old girl who had been placed in West's home through the foster-care system.

He was arraigned by Judge Robert Estep last week and bail was set at $250,000 pending a hearing at Claiborne County General Sessions Court on Friday.
